Words to Ponder

by Circling Heart
printed in The Flowering Tree, Spring 2000

I'd like to share something with you. It's not much (as far as possessions go), but it was given to me, and I'd like to pass it along. It's part of my collection of words of wisdom. None were coined by myself, but where the original author is known, I've given him or her credit. Some are serious, some are humorous, all are sincere. If you find any that you like, jot them down and add them to your own collection.

A Hopi elder spoke:

You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour; now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour. And there are things to be considered:

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?

Know your garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

Then he clasped his hands together, smiled, and said, "This could be a good time!"

The tree which moves some to tears of joy is, in the eyes of others, only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity...and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself. -- William Blake

We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves;
otherwise we harden.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet
broke a chain or freed a human soul.

Mark Twain

Everyone complains of his memory,
but no one complains of his judgment.

Francois de La Rochefoucald

Man cannot make a worm,
yet he will make gods by the dozen.

Michel Eyquem de Montaigne

Make happy those who are near,
and those who are far will come.

Chinese proverb
